Gems & Gemology Celebrates 70th

By Gary Roskin, G.G., FGA, Senior Editor -- JCK Online, 9/1/2004 2:00:00 AM

The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) recently released the spring 2004 issue of Gems & Gemology. This edition marks G&G's 70th anniversary.

In the lead article, "Identification of Synthetic Diamond Grown Using Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD)," Dr. Philip Martineau and a team of colleagues from the De Beers DTC Research Centre present the results of their study of more than a thousand synthetic diamond research samples grown by CVD and the properties that differentiate them from natural diamonds. Mentioned in the article is the new luminescence equipment, the De Beers DiamondView, which is now commercially available through GIA's Gem Instruments.

Also in the spring issue, and highlighted on the cover, is "Cultured Pearls from the Gulf of California, Mexico." This report features the new black cultured pearls from Mexico's Gulf of California.

For more information about G&G, log onto www.GIA.edu, or call (800) 421-7250, ext. 7142.
