'Tucsonite' Does Good

Gary Roskin, G.G., FGA, Senior Editor -- JCK Online, 6/1/2001 2:00:00 AM

Bill Heher of Rare Earth Mining recently presented a check for $2,500 to Shelly Clifford of the Casa de los Niños children's charity. The money was raised through the sale of the new platinum-plated drusy dubbed "Tucsonite." (See "If It's February, This Must Be Tucson," JCK, April 2001, p. 127). The pieces sold remarkably well, says Heher, and local Tucson jewelers soon will be participating in a jewelry competition using Tucsonite as the centerpiece. Judges will select five winning jewels, which will be sold at auction with the proceeds again going to Casa de los Niños.
