RUSSIAN JEWELS ON VIEW IN HOUSTON

“Kremlin Gold: 1,000 Years of Russian Gems and Jewels” will be on view at the Houston Museum of Natural Science from April 15 through Sept. 4. The exhibit features more than 140 golden relics, jeweled masterpieces, and precious art objects, many of which have never been seen outside the Kremlin.

To complement the exhibit, the museum will showcase naturally crystallized gold specimens in “Gold from the Harvard University Collection.”

The exhibit is presented by the museum in partnership with Chicago's Field Museum and the Moscow Kremlin State Historical-Cultural Museum Preserve. It then will travel to the Field Museum before returning to the Kremlin.

BOSTON SOCIETY SLATES EXHIBITIONS

Currently on view at the Society of Arts and Crafts, Boston, are two jewelry exhibitions presented in conjunction with the Society of North American Goldsmiths. “International Alternative Jewelry,” on view through April 30, is an exhibition of artists working with salvaged, found, precious, and non-precious materials. They use watch parts, eyeglasses, nylon fishing line, thread, animal gut, insects, event tickets, newspaper, and discarded plastic parts in addition to gold, silver, and gems. Their work explores conceptual, personal, and global issues in functional and sculptural jewelry.

“Drawing the Lines: Selections from Jewelers' Sketchbooks,” on view through April 28, is a group exhibition curated by Gail M. Brown of drawings and sketchbooks from American and British artists who make jewelry.
