Revere Academy Holds Seventh Masters Symposium

By Carrie Soucy, Senior Editor -- JCK Online, 3/1/2004 2:00:00 AM

Loop-in-loop chains, plique-à-jour enameling, "All About Hinges," "Cold Connections," chasing, engraving, and saw piercing are just some of the subjects offered during Revere Academy's 2004 Masters Symposium, to be held April 5-25. The Academy will host a series of 12 workshops taught by master craftspeople from across the country. Classes are offered at all levels.

This year Jean Stark, a leading force in the renaissance of ancient jewelry-making techniques, will demonstrate several variations in loop-in-loop chains as well as cloisonné enameling. Leila Tai, a plique-à-jour enameling specialist from New York, will teach her special techniques, and Tom Herman, an expert in traditional jewelry techniques, will share his skills in chasing, engraving, and saw piercing. Back by popular demand, Marne Ryan will teach her own methods for creating textural patterns on metal in her class, "Fused and Fabricated II."

During the Masters Symposium, the Academy also hosts Tuesday evening receptions and slide talks with visiting masters. These events are open to the public.

The Revere Academy of Jewelry is located in downtown San Francisco's historic Phelan Building. Schedules, information, and a free video tour are available upon request from the Revere Academy of Jewelry Arts, 760 Market St., Suite 900, San Francisco, CA 94102; (415) 391-4179, or at www.revereacademy.com.
