Swiss Watch is Part of History-Making Space Trip

William George Shuster -- JCK Online, 3/9/2001 1:50:00 PM

The Swiss-manufactured first wristwatch worn in open space and the first automatic chronograph alarm is now with the first crew members assigned to live on the $60 billion International Space Station (ISS), according to FORTIS, Wilkes-Barre, Pa. The FORTIS Official Cosmonauts Chronograph was presented by the head of the Russian Space Agency to American astronauts and Russians cosmonauts, who were launched into space at 2:53 am (EST) Oct. 31 onboard the Expedition 1. The trio will be the first human beings to live onboard the revolutionary space laboratory, designed to be Man's first permanent home outside the Earth. They will be on the station at least three months.
