Thieves descend upon Chicago's Michigan Ave. jewelry stores

Chicago police on Thursday warned jewelry businesses on the famed Michigan Avenue shopping district that a gang of thieves has been stealing thousands of dollars of jewelry from stores on the busy street, the Chicago Tribune reports.
On May 24, two women and a man stole an 8.4-ct. diamond brooch, valued at $30,000, from the jewelry case at Saks Fifth Avenue, 700 N. Michigan Ave., police reportedly said. The women entered the store about 2:30 p.m. and engaged a jewelry counter sales clerk while the man grabbed the brooch from the case. The trio ran from the store, police said.
On June 14, a man and woman stole a $5,700 pair of earrings from Neiman Marcus, at 737 N. Michigan Ave., police reportedly said. The pair left the store and fled in a gray vehicle lacking license plates.
