Montana Sapphires at GIA

An extraordinary collection of rough and faceted fancy-color sapphires from the Rock Creek, Mont., deposit is on display at GIA's Carlsbad, Calif., campus in the Assael Grand Atrium through February. The sapphires, shown here, are on loan from Bob Kane of Fine Gems International, Helena, Mont.

Montana's Rock Creek deposit is one of the few locations in North America where commercial quantities of gem-quality sapphire are found. The area produces every known color of sapphire, from the customary yellows, oranges, and blues to dozens of more unusual colors. Kane also will be showing a full array of Montana sapphires for sale in Tucson at AGTA's GemFair.
