APPOINTMENTS

Steve Grossman was named senior account manager at Ardian Corp., New York City. He formerly was president of Leda-Rodman Findings and vice president of N.E.I., Hackensack, N.J. Grossman has served as president of the Golden Circle Club of New York and a director of the Manufacturing Jewelers and Silversmiths of America.

David Berg joined Gem Essence and Joe Menzie Inc., New York City, as a New York account representative. Previously, he worked for Shearson Lehmann Hutton in New York, earned a gemological degree from the Asian Institute of Gemological Sciences and worked at a stone house in Thailand.

Thomas E. Whiddon was promoted to senior vice president and chief financial officer of Zale Corp., Irving, Tex. Before joining Zale last year, he was vice president and treasurer of Eckerd Corp., a retail drug store chain based in Clearwater, Fla.

Jim Silfies was promoted to store manager of Hamilton Jewelers in Palm Beach, Fla.

Glen Spiro was appointed head of the jewelry department at Christie's Los Angeles. He was formerly a senior jewelry specialist in Christie's London office. Brooke Glassman was promoted from head of client services and special events at Christie's Los Angeles to assistant vice president.

Cartier appointed two new account executives and relocated a third. Mary Montagliano covers the North Central territory, James Negri covers the Mid-Atlantic territory and Fred Winans moves from the Mid-Atlantic territory to Atlanta. Cartier also named Brent Nestor manager of its boutique in Bal Harbour, Fla.

Sandy Sferrella-Taylor was named director of special projects at Wilton Armetale of Mount Joy, Pa., which manufactures Armetale® brand giftware, serveware and decorative accessories. She previously was marketing director for the Leader Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Elizabethtown, Pa. Also at Wilton Armetale, Anthony Kinard was promoted from director of media and promotion to director of communications. He oversees all internal and external communications, serves as liaison to advertising agencies and supervises company showrooms.

Hertz Hasenfeld, vice president of Hasenfeld-Stein Inc., New York City, was appointed staff adviser to The Guide, which lists wholesale pricing for diamonds and colored stones and is used in more than 20 countries. Hasenfeld is a member of the Diamond Dealers Club and is on the American Gem Society's Diamond Standards Committee.

Michael T. Whitney was promoted from Eastern regional sales director to national sales manager of Speidel Textron, Providence, R.I.

Goldman Oved Diamond Co., New York City, added Noham Kilinski to its sales team. Kilinski formerly worked for Koss & Schechter, New York City.

Charles Green & Son Ltd. of Birmingham, England, named Mike Poliseno as Midwest sales representative.

Catherine Rainey joined Merkley Jewelers, Louisville, Ky., as a sales associate. She is a registered jeweler with the American Gem Society.

Deborah Treister was appointed vice president of operations at Napier Co., Meriden, Conn. Treister is responsible for customer service, order entry, distribution, warehouse and inventory/production control, quality standards and factory outlet store distribution. She joined Napier in 1978 and most recently served as director of procurement and scheduling.

Gordon Roberts joined Chanel Inc. as executive director for fine jewelry and watches. He is responsible for the merchandising, administration and marketing of all aspects of the five Chanel Joaillerie boutiques in the U.S. and oversees distribution of Chanel watches to wholesale outlets. He previously was executive for jewelry development at Asprey, New York.

OBITUARIES

John H. Peterman, 75, of Birmingham, Ala., died Aug. 20. He was a retired jeweler.

Lester L. Brems, 87, of Phoenix, Ariz., died Sept. 6. He was a retired watchmaker and jeweler.

William S. Warwick, 73, of Springfield, Pa., died in September. He worked on the De Beers account for the N.W. Ayer advertising agency from 1974 until retiring in 1988. Warwick was one of the originators of the Diamond Promotion Service.
