Changes to AGTA GemFair Tucson 2010 Days

The American Gem Trade Association announced that it is changing its day pattern for the AGTA GemFair Tucson 2010. The GemFair has traditionally started on Wednesday and closed on Monday, but it will now start on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 and close on Sunday, February 7, 2010.

“We have had many requests over the years from exhibitors and buyers alike to move our show dates back one day,” stated Douglas K. Hucker, CEO, in a company release.  “With the support and cooperation of the Tucson Gem & Mineral Society and the Tucson Convention Center, we were finally able to make it happen.”

The AGTA Spectrum Awards Gala is still planned for Saturday night, and other events may or may not change depending on the individual groups involved.

• As A Tucson Retailer and in the Jewelry Industry for over 30 years, it bothers me that the Gem Show has allowed the public consumers to shop during an important holiday time frame-Valentines Day. We feel the gem show is an important part of Tucson's economy, but in the same token the gem show takes away from local retailers sales during valentines day and holiday season. To better serve local Tucson jewelers who pay taxes and work hard to serve their customers , I propose moving the Gem show to another time frame during the year which does NOT affect sales for local jewelers. We can all gain from this and work together.
