JVC Featured on TV Reports

The Jewelers Vigilance Committee (JVC) was featured recently in two news reports about jewelry buying: an investigative report on gold underkarating in the New York/New Jersey area on UPN 9 News, and how to "shop smart" for jewelry on WB 11 news.
UPN approached JVC with questions about the industry and asked to use the organization's Precious Metals Testing laboratory to assay items purchased from retailers in New York City. Stores were selected at random; items ranged in price from $15 to $85. Results of the investigation showed violations of both New York State law and New Jersey State law as well as Federal Trade Commission Guidelines and the National Gold and Silver Stamping Act. Of the 11 items tested, only two met standards set by the FTC.
JVC also was featured prominently in a story on how to "shop smart" for jewelry. The segment on WB news depicted JVC as the organization consumers can turn to with questions and problems regarding jewelry purchase; outlined the services offered by JVC; and offered advice on questions to ask when shopping for fine jewelry. Cecilia Gardner, JVC executive director and general counsel, was interviewed for the news segment in JVC's offices.
