Third-party sellers on Amazon saw sales increases of 80 percent year-over-year on July 15, Amazon’s first-ever Prime Day, reports Reuters. Prime Day was devised to celebration Amazon’s 20th anniversary.
The statistic comes from ChannelAdvisor, the e-commerce researcher.
Amazon had claimed that the day’s sales and offers would rival Black Friday.
The big story of the day seemed to take place on Twitter, however, as customers poked fun at some of the deals on offer (Wired compiled some of the snarky tweets, which made fun of deals on items such as shoehorns and Pop-Tarts, as did Business Insider).
