Diamond Intelligence Briefs Changing Format

Diamond Intelligence Briefs, an influential Israel-based newsletter known for its in-depth analysis and tough-minded investigative reporting on the diamond industry, is changing its format and will be published less frequently.

While the three-decade-old subscriber-only newsletter has up to now been published weekly, the new Diamond Intelligence Briefing will come out at least 12 times a year. But depending on the news, it could be as much as 20, publisher and editor Chaim Even-Zohar tells JCK.

It will only include original reporting and analysis by Even-Zohar and his staff, and eliminate the news briefs in the back of the newsletter. Even-Zohar says that most of that material duplicates other newsletters.

“There are dozens of newsletters which to a large extent are redoing press releases,” he says. “To do in-depth stories takes enormous time and resources. We don’t want to continue to work under a deadline. That doesn’t always allow us the time to do as much as research as we would like.”

“The industry has many issues,” he says. “Researching developments on issues like financing, regulations, and the Kimberley Process takes a lot of time. These are the kind of stories that we wish to focus on.”

The associated consulting and research business, TACY, will not be affected.
