David Bennett has been appointed to the newly created position of worldwide chairman of the Sotheby’s jewelry division.
Bennett previously held the title of chairman of the jewelry division for Europe and the Middle East. Lisa Hubbard remains chairman of jewelry for North and South America, and Chin Yeow Quek remains chairman of Asia.
In a statement, Daryl Wickstrom, international managing director of the Sotheby’s jewelry and watch divisions, hailed Bennett for helping lead Sotheby’s to record jewelry sales of $600 million last year. He also noted that jewelry is one of the auction’s house fastest-growing categories.
Bennett has worked for Sotheby’s since 1978, and has coauthored two books: Understanding Jewellery and Celebrating Jewellery.
