FBI Busts Alleged Smash-and-Grab Crew

The FBI has broken up an alleged theft crew suspected of perpetrating smash-and-grabs at eight jewelry stores in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, taking home a haul of $3.5 million.

According to a statement from the Justice Department, the crew would allegedly research a jeweler on the Internet and then use sledgehammers to bust open cases containing high-end wristwatches. They often used guns and hammers to prevent store employees from interfering with the robbery.

“The FBI and local law enforcement agencies pursued this investigation with remarkable skill, hard work, and cooperation between agencies,” said the Jewelers’ Security Alliance in a statement. “The diamond, jewelry, and watch industry owes a great deal of thanks to these agencies for their excellent work and these important arrests.”
