Pantone Debuts Fall 2014 Color Report

Expect to journey on a surreal color odyssey for fall 2014. This news is courtesy of self-proclaimed color authority Pantone Color Institute in Carlstadt, N.J., which revealed its fall 2014 color report during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Feb. 6–13.

The top women’s colors for fall “transcend time and place,” according to the group, and speak to designers’ fascination with “the beauty of the past and the spirit of the present—re-creating it with color, fabric and style this fall season.”

“This is a season of untypical colors—more reflective of the imagination and ingenuity, which makes for an artful collection of colors and combinations not bound by the usual hues for fall,” Leatrice Eiseman, executive director tells the media. “There is a feminine mystique that is reflected throughout the palette, inspired by the increasing need for women everywhere to create an individual imprint.”

Inspiration for colors include books, crafts, landscapes, photography, retro architecture, and more, with palette selections spanning dating back 100 years. Similarly, men’s collection colors are inspired by “a need to explore—traveling back in time or into the unknown—resulting in a more adventurous use of color, especially through combinations,” according to Pantone.
