According to TMZ, a man posing as the America’s Got Talent star’s assistant stole thousands of dollars in jewelry from Fred Segal over the weekend of Nov. 16.
The gossip site reports that the impostor, who called himself Michael, phoned the Santa Monica, Calif., boutique under the guise of Cannon’s assistant, telling the clerk he needed jewelry for Cannon’s wife, singer Mariah Carey. He then asked the employee to come to the Roosevelt Hotel with the jewelry.
A man dressed as a security guard then met the Fred Segal employee at the door, indicating that he would take the bag filled with jewels up to Cannon and Carey’s hotel room.
The Los Angeles Police Department is currently investigating the case.
