Jewelry Artist Arthur Koby Dazzles Kent State With Striking New Exhibition

Known for intricate, architectural necklaces resembling three-dimensional collages, acclaimed jewelry artist Arthur Koby’s statement pieces will be on display at Kent State University in an upcoming exhibition, “Arthur Koby Jewelry: The Creative Eye.”

This year-long residency exhibit at the Kent State University Museum will feature a wide array of works on loan from Koby’s clients who have amassed collections as well as pieces from the designer himself.

Each of Koby’s creations is constructed using unique and often surprising objects—including repurposed antiques and household knickknacks—along with more traditional materials such as shells, metals and precious gems. Koby’s one-of-a-kind creations are nothing short of striking, suitable as a dramatic accent to an evening gown or a simple T-shirt and jeans ensemble.

Design luminary Geoffrey Beene discovered Koby’s work 30 years ago, seeing one of his exquisite necklaces in a window display. Beene’s fortuitous discovery lead to a decade-long working relationship with the jewelry designer, ultimately spurring Koby’s fame.

Barbara Walters, Gloria Vanderbilt and Catherine Zeta-Jones are among the celebrities who have donned Koby’s imaginative pieces, and designers such as Oscar de la Renta and Donna Karan have commissioned him to design necklaces for their runway shows.
