5 Bejeweled Cocktails

Expensive drinks are often a topic of rap songs, but you’re going to need a lot more than “50 cents” to sip these gem-inspired concoctions. If you plan on purchasing any of these creative cocktails, just be sure not to swallow the gemstone.

Diamonds are Forever Martini

Sold at the Ritz-Carlton at the top of the Tokyo Midtown Tower, the “Diamonds are Forever” martini is a drink fit for James Bond. To sip the Grey Goose concoction, which is poured over a 1 ct. diamond, will cost you 1,800,000 yen (about $18,000). So far, two luxury martinis have been sold. While a hangover may only last a day, the diamond is truly forever.

Golden Cocktail

This summer, London’s Chinawhite nightclub treated Olympic gold medalists to a sparkling cocktail worth more than $3,000. Made with Hennessey and 24k Gold Leaf Champagne, the swanky drink also contains a pair of 18k gold rings at the bottom of the glass. Swimming star Ryan Lochte is rumored to be a fan of the classy cocktail (but do the rings clash with his diamond grill?).

Sapphire Martini

Those who hit it big at Foxwoods Casino in Mashantucket, Conn., were once able to purchase a $3,000 Sapphire Martini at the Mezz Lounge. Served in a sugar coated martini glass, the cocktail came equipped with custom-made blue sapphire and diamond earrings. Talk about drinking your blues away!

Ruby Red

The only thing more dazzling than Dorothy’s ruby red slippers is a Ruby Red drink accented with the precious stone. Pete Gugni, jeweler turned drink connoisseur, first created the $950 cocktail for Reserve club in downtown Chicago (now closed). The mix of alcohol and juices is garnished with a 1 ct. grade-A ruby. Toto, I have a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore.

Martini on the Rock

This $10,000 drink gives a whole new meaning to the term “on the rocks.” Customers of the Algonquin Hotel in New York City must place their order 72 hours in advanced because each glass comes with a pre-selected diamond at the bottom. I’ll take mine shaken, not stirred please.
