Christmas Countdown: 5 Holiday Promotions From Jewelers

With Black Friday coming up next week, retailers are already getting Christmas celebrations underway. “Christmas Countdown” is a new seasonal content feature for Your Store that’ll help retail jewelers stay current on what retailers in other markets are doing to attract customers during the busiest shopping season of the year.

Cedar Park Jewelers is looking to boost their social media presence in the run up to the holiday season with a Facebook-based offer. “Like” the Austin, Texas, retailer for a chance to win half-carat diamond stud earrings (a $1,000 retail value). A lucky winner will be announced on Friday, Dec. 16.

The folks at Smythe & Cross Fine Jewelry in Los Altos, Calif., have already participated in a Christmas 2011 event with their downtown shopping area’s Annual Holiday Stroll, which happened Friday, Nov. 11. Smythe & Cross was one of 50 downtown businesses to welcome early holiday shoppers with select gifts.

Becky Beauchine, owner of Becky Beauchine Kulka Diamonds and Fine Jewelry in Okemos, Mich., came up with this “Naughty and Nice” holiday ad concept all on her own. She even sourced the high-resolution model images from iStockphotos.com. Once she paid for commercial use of the images, Christmas tweaks were made in Photoshop. Thirty ads went up above urinals in men’s bathrooms in area bars and restaurants. In the campaign’s first week, some local business owners have even asked Beauchine if they can have her ads in their men’s bathrooms.

The Christmas holiday season is a popular time of the year for cause marketing. The folks at Kres Jewelers recently posted notice on Facebook of its Nov. 20 open house to benefit their local Humane Society. People in the store’s Bainbridge, Ga., market can bring in commonly used pet supplies for a chance to win a quarter-carat diamond.

Jewelry Creations in Dover, N.H., is taking product shots from Hearts On Fire then giving them a Christmas look before uploading holiday-themed graphics on Facebook. With each holiday-related product posting, store owner Linda Hagan and her staff are using Facebook lingo to get reactions from customers. “Would you ‘like’ these Hearts On Fire Beloved earrings & pendant in your Christmas stocking?” is the most recent caption used in this week’s image upload.
