DDC President Supports Diamond and Jewelry Industry Impact Study

Moshe Mosbacher, president of the Diamond Dealers Club,
recently voiced his support for the implementation of the recommendations made
in a major New York Diamond and Jewelry Industry Impact Study.

The study, released Aug. 2, is the first in-depth project of
its type to have been conducted in the past 20 years, and was prepared by the
Pratt Center for Community Development on behalf of the 47th Street Business
Improvement District, in collaboration with the Empire State Development
Corporation.

“This is both an impressive and important document and
I congratulate the 47th Street BID, its board of directors and the study’s
authors for a job well done,” Mosbacher said in a statement. “They
have confirmed empirically what we have long known instinctively, and that is
that the diamond and jewelry industries play an absolutely critical role in the
economic life of the city and the state, and that decisive action is required
to secure their long-term future.”

Mosbacher went on to say that the Diamond District was the
“nerve center of New York’s largest export generating industry,” and that it
was “essential” to follow through on the study’s recommendations.
