Philadelphia-area residents will be competing in a high-tech scavenger hunt, hoping to be the first to find a Hearts On Fire diamond ring, valued at $20,000.

The Robbins Diamonds Dash will send hundreds of teams from around Philadelphia to search city-wide for the ring. This is not a traditional scavenger hunt—clues will be sent to participants via text messages, leading them to various Philadelphia landmarks such as Love Park, Independence Hall, and City Hall.  Teams interact in the game by texting codes such as or to receive help or standings.

The event is a promotion of Robbins Diamonds, which has five stores in and around Philadelphia. The technology was developed by SCVNGR, a Philadelphia start-up company that provides interactive mobile platforms that allow users to develop mobile games and deploy them on mobile phones and carrier networks.

The event will be held Oct. 18 beginning at 10 a.m. at Thomas Paine Plaza, 1417 John F Kennedy Blvd. The final clue will be given at 12:30 p.m. Clue locations will be at Love Park, City Hall, and Independence Hall.
