Diamond Miners Challenge Yellowknife Youth to Raise Funds for Tsunami Victims

BHP Billiton Diamonds Inc. joined forces with Yellowknife school students to present a check for $31,739.98 to the Red Cross and the Development and Peace organization.

The check represents $21,739.98 raised by the students during the month of January, along with $10,000 contributed by BHP Billiton Diamonds Inc. BHP Billiton Diamonds Inc. will divide its contribution between the Red Cross and Development and Peace at the request of school board officials.

In addition to its corporate donation of $500,000, BHP Billiton has also agreed to match dollar-for-dollar individual employee donations. Employees and contractors of the Ekati Diamond Mine raised over $21,000 to aid in the relief efforts. For more information, call (867) 669-1853.
